Hey everyone!

I'm Maddie and I'm a senior English major with a minor in Technical/Professional Communication.

This is me with my super cool cat tapestry.
My interest in video games fluctuates depending on my free time and what games have come out lately, but it started when I was pretty young and would play Nintendo 64 with my pop-pop. It was always best when we'd play Mortal Kombat despite the rule that I wasn't allowed/was too young to play it. When I "graduated" kindergarten I got a pink Game Boy Color and Pokemon Red as a gift so that shaped most of what I did with gaming for years. Almost all of the games I've dedicated a lot of time to have been on handheld gaming, mostly because I have trouble reading captions and small text on the screen when I play on consoles. I generally stick with easier games like Pokemon, Animal Crossing, or narrative based games like Life is Strange.

Although I enjoy video games all the skill at playing them unfortunately went to my younger brother. I've been interested in MMORPGs for a while but never really had the opportunity to get started on one so I'm really excited to start playing FFXIV. I'm hoping this will be a game that I can continue playing beyond the class.

Outside of gaming and class I spend a lot of my time reading, writing short stories, knitting, and hanging out with my cats Spock and Dorian Gray. I think that the character creation process with gaming is much more immersive than in writing a short story so I hope to be able to change the way that I create characters and write stories by learning from the varying types of character creation in this class. I also think that D&D and writing backstories help in fleshing out story ideas, landscapes, and the things that make a character human (in this case "human" meaning simply that they have the essence of being alive, not necessarily being of the human species).
