Quest Givers: Maddie Moyer-Keehn and John Watts
Introduction
One of the most alluring aspects of gaming is the lack of real world consequences for in game actions which allows the gamer to act in any way they want without fear of those repercussions. Life is Strange allows gamer actions to lead to a number of in game consequences that play out throughout the story and leading it in different directions, thereby allowing the gamer to have an experience unique to their specific version of Max, the player character. The game experience and narrative are formed through interactions between Max and other characters, cut scenes, observations, and the decisions the gamer makes. There are some places where actions take the form of puzzle like activities to move forward in the game rather than interacting with the landscape. Information about the story and characters is gained through text messages, interactions in which the player chooses what to discuss, exploring and investigating items and scenes Max finds, and sometimes through manipulating the conversation with quick jumps in time to get the information she needs. This narrative based game really immerses the player into Max’s life, a whirlwind of unexpected twists and turns, deadly situations, and the consequences of her actions in how the story unfolds.
Objectives
1.           Play episode 1 of Life is Strange. Take your time and interact with the other characters and objects you encounter.
2.           Write a blog post (2-page length requirement) response to the game looking at these questions:
·             How do you think your actions would play out in future episodes?
·             (If you played ahead) Were any of your predictions correct? Were there times you wanted to go back and change your decision because of how it affected the gameplay?
·             How did you feel about playing a game that was mostly narrative? Did it enhance gameplay or take away from it?
·             What themes were present that you’ve seen in other books, games, or movies? How did this game approach them differently?

Additional Notes
·              Each episode is about $4.99. You can opt to buy individual episodes or the whole season.
·              It is a series of 5 episodes, the 5th is set to be released around October 20th.

·              The length of the episodes is determined by how you play. More attention to detail can bring episodes up to about 3 hours of gameplay while less interaction can bring it down to about 1 hour. The best way to get the most from each episode is to aim towards the middle so that you do not miss any important interactions, dialogue, photo opportunities, or details that will be useful in future episodes.
